On to the next: Spring 2018

Brittany Arriola

Right now, I'm working on my Spring 2018 collection "Jungle Bird". This time around, I'm drawing inspiration from the hip 1980's, using bold silhouettes, fabrics and as always feathers. I have also mixed in a little Carmen Miranda influence because I have always loved her.

My idea for this collection started while I was watching one of my favorite movies, Coming to America. The wedding scene in that movie is one of my favorite costume moments ever on film. I've always loved the prints colors and headpieces. Then it came to me! A jungle theme collection is the right evolution for my second collection, it gives me so much room to be quirky and colorful which are my two favorite things!

Moment of Inspiration: The Love Witch

Brittany Arriola

I'm gagging over the art direction in the 2016 indie film Love Witch! I only watched the trailor, and am already so inspired.

I just had to share some incredible looks from this film because I loved it so much, and cannot wait to see the movie!

Fashion Week SD

It Happened!

Showcasing my "Hatch" collection in Fashion Week San Diego was an incredible experience, and I cant believe it's over! My first collection hit the runway 9/30 and I survived to tell the tale. It is a tale of anxiety, turmoil and above all, redemption! But I only have time to write the bullet points, so pull up a chair and settle in.

Watching my dresses walk the runway was completely surreal. I don't have kids, but I imagine the feeling is similar to sending them off to kindergarten. Just hoping that no one teases or harms them now that they left the safety of your nest. You might be asking yourself, "Whats with all the bird references?" Well this is just the first of many.....

Any who, when my song started I was watching stunned like a dear in headlights. I only watched three of my designs walk before I was whisked through a jungle of shrubbery to the back stage area. From the back I got to watch the rest of my dresses through a monitor. It was amazing to see everything come together. After my last dress walked the runway, I was pulled on stage to do a finale walk. I thought this would be horrible for me, but I actually was so relieved that all my looks fit and didn't spontaneously fall off or blow up that I was fine!

I end this journey feeling proud of myself, and also grateful for all the help I received along the way. I would like to thank the city bus driver for taking a chance on an unknown kid, and the breakfast crew at McDonald's for spending so much time making those little egg mcmuffins. Without which, I might never be tardy! But seriously, the team at FWSD has been so wonderful this past year, my husband has been so resourceful and supportive, and of course my co-workers at The White Flower have been incredible. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

What's Next? Well, I am starting with an Etsy store. I will be making one of a kind items and posting them for sale. Stay tuned!

Spring Showcase 2016

Brittany Arriola

This years Spring Showcase was held in the event center at Harrah's SoCal on Saturday. Honestly, I was a ball of nerves most of the night, but it was amazing to see everyone's hard work unfold in such a wonderful way.

Getting in the mood

Brittany Arriola

Before starting any collection I like to create a mood board to inspire the flow of things. I used Polyvore to create this one, its super easy and they have an amazing collection of images. I love the Fendi monster bag collection they remind me of a weird little chickens.

Come out of your Shell

Brittany Arriola

Sometimes you just have to show a little egg..... and come out of your shell! Tonight I'm inspired by the soft spring color palettes of spring, and the lamp from A Christmas Story.
